Whether you giggle or burst into a complete belly laugh, laughter is good for your entire body, mind and well-being. Proverbs 17:22 (KJV) states, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”
According to various studies, laughter can:
Boost your immune system – It has been documented that laughter may increase the production of immune cells and increase resistance to illness. Laughter can reduce stress hormones. When you are stressed, try laughter. Think of laughter as medicine to lead you to a healthier, happier life.
Increase circulation – It does take a lot of air when you are into a belly laugh! Your lungs are getting a great workout and your stomach muscles as well. Your muscles become relaxed, and you can feel great from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.
Lower anxiety and relieves stress – Laughing provides a mental pause from anxiety, worry and stress. Laughter can divert you from negative thoughts. This is a great way to loosen tense muscles and allow your body to relax and enjoy happiness. Look at a funny picture or watch a funny video and let the giggles begin!
Improve your mood and sense of humor – Have you ever needed an attitude adjustment? I have! Sometimes life hits you hard. Laughter will bring your mood into a positive status and improve your sense of humor.
Help with insomnia – Having a good laugh before bedtime may release melatonin into your body. Muscles can become more relaxed, mood improves, and stress and anxiety melt away. You can go to sleep feeling great and have a smile on your face.
Makes you more attractive – Laughing will help you become a “people magnet”! I know this to be a fact! Most people enjoy being around someone that smiles and has positive vibes. So, smile and see how others react to you. Just don’t overdo it! (laughing)
So overall, laughter can improve your quality of life.

Comedic Elements
To help you get a chuckle during the day, you can choose from a variety of things:
- A funny photo
- Make a funny face and send it to a loved one or friend
- Reels on social media
- Watch funny videos (I love the laughing baby videos!)
- Search for jokes
- Watch old cartoons (my favorite)
- Watch old comedy shows
Here’s a joke! What’s worse than finding a worm while eating an apple?
Finding HALF a worm in the apple! 😊
Find a “Giggle Buddy”
Sharing a laugh is also great! I have had many giggle buddies in the past and do now. Having someone that you can giggle with is awesome! When I come across someone that snorts when they laugh, I could laugh for 15 minutes! Being around someone with a hilarious and contagious laugh can keep you in stitches for a long time. Just don’t do it at the library. You’ll be kicked out! (laughing)
We now know it is very beneficial to have a good laugh at least once a day. Are you ready to try it?
Let’s go!
Start with a simple “ha ha”.
Then keep saying “ha ha ha”.
It will start to sound ridiculous and funny to you but DON’T STOP! Keep doing it until you begin to laugh.
It’s even funnier if you are around someone and the person starts looking at you like you have lost your mind!
Soon your stress will melt away, your smile shines bright and you look fantastic!
